A standard mattress should be flipped every three months to help retain quality. Start by removing all bedding and sheets. Thoroughly vacuum the mattress before turning. Have someone stand on the other side of the bed to act as ‘catcher’ when the mattress is flipped and then vacuum the exposed side before putting on sheets.
The Select Comfort Number mattress is designed to help you customize the firmness on each side of the bed. A remote is installed on each side of the bed to allow individual settings. 120-volt power is required to operate the Sleep Number remote. Lie down on the bed in your normal sleep position. Allow a few moments for your body to adjust and then use the remote control to select a number. Permit your body time to accustom to each setting. When you find the one that suits you, take note of the number for future reference.
To maintain and care for your Select Comfort Number mattress, regularly zip open the mattress cover to vacuum and to provide airflow that will help reduce the risk of mildew. Do not dry clean the mattress cover or put it in the washing machine. Remove stains by dabbing the spot with carbonated water or a mild detergent and allow the area to thoroughly air dry before replacing sheets. The Select Comfort Number mattress should not be turned over as is recommended with a standard coil spring mattress. When storing items under the bed, use care to avoid damage to the wiring and controller box. While traveling in high altitude, partially deflate the mattress during drive time to prevent air pressure build up.
The hide-a-bed air mattress located in the living room will require 110-V power to operate the air pump. To unfold the hide-a-bed, press the side lever and slowly pull upwards to release the frame. Use caution to avoid pinching your hands between the lever and the frame. When returning the hide-a-bed to storage position, release the air cap. Slowly fold the frame applying slight pressure to accelerate deflation.
Regularly vacuum the mattress to remove dust build up. Clean up wet spills on the mattress by blotting the spot with a dry cloth. If the mattress is too wet, prevent mold by taking the necessary steps to quickly dry the mattress. Remove the mattress to a dry location, or tip the mattress onto its side and provide adequate airflow. You can often accelerate drying time using the low setting of a hair dryer.
To measure for sheets, use a metal measuring tape and record the bed width and length. Select pillows that are designed to keep your body properly aligned. Pillows that tilt your head at an angle may cause aching to the neck, shoulder and hip pressure points. For renewed fluff in pillows and bedding, occasionally run these items on low setting in a large capacity dryer.
