On a monthly basis, clean and maintain the machine. Remove the detergent drawer and wash in mild soap and water to clear away residue. Rinse well and dry with a soft cloth. Inspect the filter below the machine for buttons, coins, etc., that may separate from items during the wash cycle. Clear lint residue from the exhaust hose using a flexible brush (available at hardware stores). You can access the exhaust hose through the closet, a shelf above the machine or at the outside vent. One time per year add 1-2 cups of white vinegar to the detergent dispenser and run the machine through an empty cycle.
The wash cycle will accommodate twice as much as the dryer. Load sizes should be rated at the dryer maximum. Separate loads into items of similar weight. Empty pockets and fasten loose straps before loading items into the machine. Avoid washing throw rugs. Wet rugs are heavy and can throw the machine off balance and material from rubber backing will clog the pump.
Whether to use liquid or powder detergent is up to the operator, but no more than 1-2 tablespoons in either amount. Suds flowing out the exhaust are indication that too much soap was used. Bleach may have a separate compartment that slides into the Prewash drawer. At the end of a cycle there may be water in the bleach compartment due to normal siphoning. You can choose to either manually drain the water or add bleach to the water when running the next load. The Prewash cycle will require 1 – 1 ½ gallons of water for the load.
The Express Cycle is designed to use more water and less electricity due to shorter run time. To program Delay Start, turn the dial to Delay, wait for the lights to blink and then set the cycle. Due to the delicacy of fabrics, the machine will not Auto Dry when set to Silk Cycle.
Minimum dry time is usually programmed for 30 minutes. If you desire less dry time, it will be necessary to manually stop the machine after the desired time. When setting to Dry only it is normal for the machine to emit a shot of water to fill the P-trap.
Fabric softener helps to reduce wrinkling. Thick and dark blue softeners generally do not disperse as well as lighter blue fabric softeners. Dryer sheets are designed for full sized machines and can clog the pump in a combination washer/dryer. You can also reduce wrinkling by stopping the machine after the wash cycle and shaking items before drying. Excess air coming out of the drawer is generally indication that the exhaust is clogged.
Excess vibration may be due to under loading that causes items to bunch together in a clump. Vibration moving the machine inside the cabinet can cause the detergent drawer to become blocked. If this occurs, there is an easy-to-install bracket kit available through the manufacturer that will help to keep the drawer accessible.
