Corian

Care and cleaning of Corian should be carefully performed to help reduce dulling and scratches. For everyday cleaning, a soapy water solution or ammonia based spray cleaner will remove light soiling. Rinse with clear water and dry using a soft cloth.

More stubborn staining may require use of a mild abrasive cleaning agent such as Soft Scrub. Scrub in a circular motion and then reverse. For tougher stains, use Soft Scrub with a Scotch Brite pad. These pads are colored to distinguish between grits. White is the fine, green is coarse.

Acetone (nail polish) will usually remove marks, but requires caution to avoid dissolving the color of the Corian surface. Apply acetone to a rag and then wipe. Rinse well using clear water.

Disinfect countertops, sinks and cutting boards using a 50/50 water-bleach solution. Allow the disinfectant to soak the surface for fifteen minutes and then rinse using clear water.

Dressings to reproduce the shine may only produce a surface affect that quickly wipes away. If areas begin to dull, use Soft Scrub and a white Scotch Brite to restore some of the shine.

Medium grit sandpaper can be used to remove minor cuts and scratches. Once the imperfection is gone, use a fine grit paper and sand outwards from the scratch in a larger area to blend in. When finished, rinse the area with clear water and dry. To restore high gloss to the surface, buff the area with a white polishing compound and finish with a countertop wax.

Hot frying pans set directly on the counter can warp from heat and leave a white burn mark. Low temperature casseroles can create a heat mass. When the pan is removed, cold air may stress the Corian and create a crack. Always use a hot pad with trivets under hot pans to help diffuse the heat. Allow hot pans to cool before placing them in a Corian sink.

Factory trained fabricators are often able to repair and restore Corian sinks, countertops and cutting boards. To locate a Certified Fabricator/Installer (CFI) in your area, look in the yellow pages under 'Counter Tops,' 'Corian,' or call the Dupont Corian company direct at (800) 426-7426.
