The RV icemaker may be designed to fit inside the galley refrigerator, or as a stand-alone appliance. To produce ice, a valve opens to direct water into the icemaker tray. When the interior box is cooled to a pre-determined temperature, the appliance will begin ice production. An arm bail monitors progress of the cubes, and when in the down position, signals the tray to produce the next batch.
Refer to the icemaker manufacturer manual to obtain recommended temperature settings. Allow the box time to cool. Keep door seals clean to help assure adequate sealing. Put the arm bail in the down position to turn the unit on. Sometimes the icemaker takes time to cycle, so be patient.
The RV icemaker is considered a 120-Volt A/C operated appliance and requires shore power, the generator or house batteries in concert with the inverter or converter. If power is provided and the icemaker fails to operate, troubleshoot the electrical supply at a GFI outlet or the breaker panel.
A water fill valve provides water to the icemaker. This valve is generally located at the back of the refrigerator through the outside access vent, or at the bottom of the appliance behind a removable panel. To operate the icemaker this valve must be on. The system will draw water from shore services or the fresh water holding tank.
To obtain quality ice it is recommended that you use a potable hose when hooked to shore services. Maintain the potable hose by wiping off each end with a clean rag after disconnecting and screwing the ends together when not in use to prevent insects and debris from entering the hose. Regularly sanitize the fresh water holding tank using a diluted bleach solution in the amounts stated by the RV operation's manual. Change the water filters on schedule. Occasionally empty the ice bucket and soak the bucket in warm water to remove ice build up. If the icemaker fails to operate, the freezer may require a complete defrost for the system to work.
Keep foods in the refrigerator tightly sealed to prevent odors from being absorbed into the ice cubes. If the cubes are reducing in size, check the water supply valve for obstruction. Small cubes can also indicate that the water filter needs to be replaced.
Put the metal arm bail in the up position to stop the icemaker unit from producing ice. When winterizing the system, drain the water line and turn off the fill valve.
Before calling for service, locate the icemaker serial number inside the box or at the rear vent access.
