Roadmaster Chassis

Monaco RV builds the Roadmaster Chassis for use with many of their diesel model motor homes. Monaco has three Roadmaster Chassis plant locations: Elkhart, Indiana, Coburg, Oregon and Harrisburg Oregon. The chassis facility in Elkhart is large enough to run production of the Roadmaster chassis on one continuous line. In Oregon the chassis facilities are spread between locations, but transport distance is minimal.

Once a chassis order is received, inventory of parts that will be installed on the chassis, such as the engine, transmission and axles, are ordered. Some items may require a longer lead-time than others, and the particulars of the order will determine the length of time until the unit is complete. Each chassis is built for order, not cut and extended as is done with other chassis manufacturers. The Roadmaster Chassis is built per request to eliminate splices in the frame or installation of suspension products not specifically tested for the unit. Parts added to the chassis from outside vendors are used only after extensive testing is performed to assure the correct combination.

The manufacturing process of the Roadmaster Chassis involves complete construction of the chassis on site. Even the chassis engineers are housed nearby to feed documentation to the production line involving various models of motor homes and the individual floor plans.

A major benefit to having the chassis and house built by the same entity involves warranty and repair. Instead of spending time trying to pinpoint a problem between manufacturers, owners and technicians working on a Monaco Coach built upon the Roadmaster Chassis can get all their maintenance and troubleshooting questions answered from one source.

Maintenance of the Roadmaster Chassis includes power washing under the frame to remove road grime and chemicals used to maintain the roadways. During winter driving, when snow and ice roadways are removed with gravel or salt, it is recommended you wash the underbody of the Roadmaster Chassis at least one time each month. Lubrication of the chassis components is important. Refer to your chassis operations manual or lube guide to locate the necessary grease fittings. Fluid levels should also be monitored on a regular basis. Periodically inspect hoses and belts for wear.

Although the Roadmaster Chassis is soundly constructed, overloading the chassis and exceeding the manufacturer's recommended Gross Vehicle Weight Rating can fatigue the frame structure and cause potential failure.
