Hydronic System Maintenance

Fans on the Aqua Hot and Hydra Hot systems require regular maintenance. Placement of the fans differ between floor plans, however, you can generally pinpoint the location by vent covers, which are either metal or wood. The vent cover is usually attached by screws or nail pins. Always securely reattach the vent covers using the same screws or pin nails.

A hydronic heating system utilizes 12-Volt DC motors to blow hot air over the heater core. Dust, dirt, lint and pet hair is drawn in by the airflow and can accumulate on the heater core, reducing the amount of heat produced. The heater core should be cleaned at least twice each year.

Vacuuming is the preferred method of cleaning the heater core. Another option is to use compressed air to blow away dust and debris. Practice caution when cleaning around the heater core fins to avoid bending the fins and restricting airflow through the heater core.

Some heating zones may be more difficult to access than others. Areas around the galley and vanity area may have false floors that will require removal to access the heater core.

During this bi-annual maintenance, check the antifreeze level in the hydronic heating system, located in the overflow tank in the fuel tank bay or next to the Aqua Hot burner assembly. The hydronic heating system requires a specific type of boiler antifreeze containing a 50/50 mixture of distilled water and non-toxic Propylene Glycol base. Replacement of this specific type of boiler antifreeze can be obtained through the component manufacturer, your selling dealer or Monaco National Parts. Do not mix antifreeze. Use of antifreeze other than the recommended type can cause scaling and eventual failure of the hydronic heating system. Replenish antifreeze levels when the system is cool.
