Take the time to inspect the campsite for tree stumps, rocks, or soft spots in the earth. Be on the look out for tree branches that can scratch the paint, or obstacles that will impede with levelers, slide room operation or awning extension. Have someone stand outside to provide guidance, and keep that person visible in the rearview mirror at all times.
Form a routine for setting up the RV. Start by engaging the air brake and turning off the engine. Go outside and walk the circumference to verify that nothing will interfere with extension of the slide out rooms. Make sure the RV is positioned to allow the shore cord to reach the pedestal for power. Push jack pads or blocks under the levelers.
With the ignition off, extend the slide rooms one at a time. Listen for any suspicious noises or unusual movement in the room. When the slide rooms are out, go to the entry door and engage the step switch to keep the steps extended at all times.
Level the RV. If the motorhome has the HWH air leveling system, this may require starting the engine. For hydraulic leveling, run the front jack down until it reaches the ground, followed by then extending each rear jack, one at a time. There should be no movement inside the vehicle by pets or humans during the leveling process.
Go outside and check the power pedestal to determine if the supply is 30-Amps or 50-Amps. For 30-Amp service it may be necessary to use an adapter for connection. Turn off the breaker at the pedestal and plug in the power cord. Once connected, turn on the power at the pedestal and then go into the RV to check the monitor panel for incoming power. Confirm 120 Volts A/C incoming and that the inverter is charging.
When water service is provided, go to the water service compartment outside the RV to connect a potable hose to the city water connection. For sewer service hook up the sewer hose, but close the black tank valve and let the tank fill to half before dumping to help prevent clogs. You can leave the gray tank valve open, however, prior to dumping the black tank fill the gray tank to half to flush the hose. Run the sewer and water hoses through the cut out in the floor of the water bay so you can keep the compartment door closed. Make a daily inspection that the hose clamp is secure.
Moving back inside the RV, power up the satellite or put up the television antenna to obtain reception.
Reverse the procedure to depart. In addition, go up on top of the RV to sweep away pine needles and leaves from the tops of the awnings. When you unhook from shore power, wipe clean all hoses and cords before stowing them away. On certain model engines it will be necessary to turn key to the run position and then allow time for the Wait to Start light to go out before cranking the engine. Pull forward away from the campsite and go outside to be sure no items are left behind.
