Out of Storage

Lube the chassis. Fill oils and fluids, and change filters as necessary. Carefully inspect belts and hoses for wear. Service the generator and wipe away dust and debris from the generator compartment. Start the engine and run it up to high idle. Check the battery gauge at the dash to confirm that the alternator is charging around 14.1 Volts DC.

Flush the water system with fresh water if you winterized using antifreeze. Once flushed, disinfect the fresh water tank, and add odor control chemical specifically designed for RV use to the black tank.

Fill Liquid Lead Acid batteries with distilled water. Check electrolyte levels using a hydrometer. Clean away dust and corrosion from the battery cases and cables. Run the generator to charge the batteries.

Wash the exterior body, including motorhome roof, awnings, and wheel wells.

Inspect the tires for wear. After loading the motorhome, take the time to perform a four-corner weigh (6-corner weigh with a tag axle) to calculate the proper air pressures for the tires.

Examine the roof. Remove both A/C covers to clear out debris. Tightly secure the covers. Inspect seams, seals and caulking on the roof. Replace as needed.

Clean vents and screens around appliances, windows and in the ceiling. Remove and wash A/C filters.

Open all compartments and bay storage areas and clear away nests and debris.

Run electronics inside the motorhome to assure that everything is in working order. Operate the furnace and air conditioning system.

Extend the slideouts. Lubricate the gear track under the slides with silicone spray.

Inspect shore cords, hoses and electrical cords.

Clean the interior, carefully inspecting inside cabinets and behind furniture for any signs of a leak.

Perform a light check, including wiring to the tow vehicle. Turn on the refrigerator. If you have an icemaker, run the system and discard the first two trays of ice.

Take a shake down cruise to make sure everything is in working order before you head off on a long trip.
