Maintenance Tips

Follow a regular maintenance schedule. Determine maintenance items by reading the vehicle owner's manual, as well as all paperwork accompanying individual components. Compile a list of maintenance items and set the tasks out on a spreadsheet to arrange the workflow. The following items are occasionally overlooked during regular maintenance and upkeep of the motorhome.

Water Pump Screen - Usually located in or around the service center area, this screen is designed to prevent large debris from entering the water pump system and should be inspected and cleaned no less than once every six months.

Water Filters - Number of water filters can differ between model motorhomes. Read the owner's manual to learn how many water filters are installed and inspect filters at least once every thirty days during use.

Washer/Dryer Screen - This trap can often become plugged with lint, and during times of use, should be inspected and cleaned daily when the washer/dryer is in use.

Faucet Screen - Located at every sink head, galley, bathroom and shower, the screens should be cleaned twice each year to eliminate clogging that can reduce water flow.

Fresh Water Tank - To prevent stagnant water from entering the system, regularly empty the tank and disinfect the fresh water system.

Water Heater - Empty the water heater tank when the motor home is not in use. If the water heater system utilizes an anode rod, replace that rod annually.

Water P-traps - This is the bend in plumbing pipes located under the sinks and behind the washer/dryer. When the motorhome or the washer/dryer is not in use, run water into this trap to prevent the pipe from drying out and emitting odor. During winter storage you should put antifreeze into the P-traps.

Roof A/C Filters - Motorhomes include from one to three roof a/c systems. For optimum cooling, each filter should be cleaned to remove dust and pet hair no less than once per week while the air conditioning systems are in use.

Microwave Filters - Small grease filters positioned under the appliance should be removed and cleaned monthly.

Exhaust Fan Screens - Located in the galley and bathroom areas, the screens should be cleaned to remove dust and grime on a monthly basis.
