Slide Out Rollers

Rollers are located in the floor below the slide out room. These rollers support the weight of the room and function to reduce friction during room operation. Slide out rollers are designed in a variety of shapes and sizes.

Slide room rollers are accessed from the outside of the RV. When the room is fully extended push down on the bottom exterior seal. Rollers are positioned approximately 18" from each end of the slide room. Maintenance pertaining to slide room rollers requires keeping the rollers clean and performing periodic inspections of the rollers to look for signs of wear and tear.

The following slide out roller manufacturers advise RV owners to follow additional maintenance guidelines to eliminate noise by applying a small amount of silicone spray to rollers at intervals that depend upon individual slide room use: Dewald Power Gear and Lippert Components. This involves the following Monaco Coach model units: Santiam, Admiral SE, Alumascape 5 th Wheel, Alumascape Travel Trailer, Dune Chaser Fifth Wheel, Lakota Fifth Wheel, Lakota Travel Trailer, Next Level Fifth Wheel, Medallion Fifth Wheel, Presidential Fifth Wheel and Presidential Travel Trailer.

Slide room operation requires electrical power using the house batteries, shore power, or the RV generator. Dirt on the floor inside the RV can affect proper operation of slide room rollers. Over time dirt and debris, including animal hair, can build up around the slide room floor. In the galley area, larger items such as paper napkins or pots and pans, may lodge into the slide room space to prevent the room from properly retracting.

During slide out room activation be on the look out for any signs of malfunction. Unusual noise during slide room operation may signify a potential problem with the rollers and should be promptly investigated. Bearings located on the sides of the slide room rollers may have been exposed to debris that pushed the bearing sideways and caused it to pop out. In this instance, the slide out roller will need to be replaced. Other signs of suspected malfunction include rooms moving in short, jerky motion, or rooms that stop at an uneven angle.

Prior to extending the slide room, insure that there is ample space outside the RV to run out the room without risk of collision between the room and outdoor obstacles. In the event of a mishap, have the slide room rollers and bearings inspected for damage. Before retracting the slide room, insure that the floor space inside the RV is free of objects that could get entangled in the room.
