Tech Tip 255: 02/08/08 - Hardware Prior to cleaning light fixtures, turn off power to the light and allow bulbs to cool. Wash with a mild soap and water solution, wiping carefully to avoid damage to the fixture. Dry with a soft cloth. Examine screws for fastness and replace any that appear worn or damaged. Tighten door and drawer handles using a screwdriver. If a handle screw is stripped, replace it with a matching screw. Do not tighten by rotating the handle and risk damage to the wood surface. Dirt and grime build up can cause drawers to stick. Remove drawers and thoroughly clean tracks with a damp cloth. Finish by applying a small amount of household lubricant along the track. Sometimes a guide can become loose or break. Locate the guide under the drawer and tighten or replace as necessary. Repair breaks in the drawer by nailing together the corners and sealing the crack with wood glue. If a drawer track gets bent and this prevents smooth operation, remove the track using a screwdriver and replace with a new track of the same length. Missing or damaged vinyl buttons, faded stickers and drawer handles can often be replaced. Contact your selling dealer or Monaco National Parts for more information. Hinges may become loose or worn to prevent proper door seal. If a hinge is out of place, take a rubber hammer and lightly tap the hinge back into place. Routinely inspect hinge plates for signs of cracking. Tighten screws. Examine hinges on the refrigerator and freezer doors. Occasionally oil cabinet and bathroom door hinges using a small amount of household lubricant. Polish faucets in the kitchen, bathroom and outside water service bay with mild soap and clear water. Scrub inside faucet crevices using an old toothbrush. Dry faucets with a soft cloth to restore shine. At least twice each year unscrew the aerator at the faucet and clean the screen to remove water deposit build up. Avoid using abrasive cleaners on faucets. To remove hard water spots, apply a mild liquid abrasive cleanser with a soft cloth. Rub gently to avoid scratching the faucet. Tighten faucet locknut and occasional check o-rings for signs of leaks. Routinely extend bay cargo and generator trays to expose tracks. Remove dirt and debris with a damp cloth. Wipe exterior door hinges. If a door is sticky or makes a creaking sound, lightly oil the hinge with household lubricant. Sliding pocket doors are designed with rollers positioned at the top of the door. Lightly lubricate the pocket doors at least one time per year. To adjust the rollers, turn the adjusting screw in the necessary direction. ©2008 Monaco Coach Corporation. All Rights Reserved. |
